In case you missed our post from last week, the month of March has been National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month (or NDDAM). NDDAM is an opportunity for people and organizations across the nation to bring attention to the numerous mental and physical disabilities that 20{4484a610ba12ad46baec767347073917e486819a83b2d744ced0feda89144e79} of adults struggle with. While some are certainly more serious than others, the point of NDDAM is to show that we are all affected by disabilities either directly or indirectly. By banding together, however, we can help to eliminate the disadvantages they bring and maybe even an end to the disabilities themselves.
A Gift for a Girl in Need
One organization that’s doing a great job of celebrating NDDAM is Convaid. Convaid is a wheelchair manufacturer that specializes in portable wheelchairs, many of which are specifically made for children. While new and used wheelchair vans are great for adults, children can easily benefit from having a chair that can fit into the trunk of a car. One such child is a little girl named Samantha. Samantha is nine years old and has cerebral palsy which directly affects her mobility. Up until now, Samantha’s wheelchair could not fit in the trunk of her mother’s car which made life difficult for her family to bring Samantha places. In the spirit of NDDAM, Convaid partnered with UCP (United Cerebral Palsy) to provide Samantha with a brand new Convaid Cruiser, a specially designed wheelchair that easily folds up and fits into the trunk of a car. Samantha’s favorite part about the chair? It’s purple, her favorite color. While this might seen small in scope compared to the millions who deal with the various forms of cerebral palsy, Convaid and UCP were able to have a direct impact on the lives of Samantha and her family, and we think that is something worth celebrating.
