The 2024 Paralympics and Accessibility: Empowering Athletes and Fans, Featuring Minnesota Paralympians

Minnesota Paralympic athletes

The 2024 Paralympic Games, set to take place in Paris from August 28 to September 8, 2024, will bring together the world’s top athletes with disabilities. These athletes will compete in a variety of adaptive sports, showcasing incredible talent, determination, and the power of inclusivity. With accessibility at the heart of the Paralympic movement, this event is more than just a competition; it’s a celebration of independence, determination, and breaking barriers.

At Rollx Vans, we’re committed to promoting accessibility, just like the Paralympic Games, by providing individuals with disabilities reliable and customized mobility solutions. As we cheer on these athletes, we also highlight the critical role accessible transportation plays in enabling their journey to success.

Minnesota’s Paralympic Stars: Athletes to Watch in 2024

Minnesota has a proud tradition of developing outstanding athletes, and the 2024 Paralympics will be no exception. Thirteen remarkable athletes from the Land of 10,000 Lakes will be representing our state in Paris. Their stories of perseverance and triumph are inspiring examples of how hard work and community support can drive success.

Here are just a couple of the incredible Minnesota athletes competing in the 2024 Paralympics:

  • Rose Hollermann – Wheelchair Basketball: Rose Hollermann, a proud native of Mankato, has been an integral part of Team USA’s wheelchair basketball team since 2016, when she helped the national team secure a gold medal at the Rio Paralympic Games. Her journey, however, began much earlier. In 2011, at just 15 years old, Rose became the youngest player ever selected for Team USA’s wheelchair basketball squad, going on to compete in the 2012 London Games. With a decorated career and an unwavering dedication to the sport, Rose heads to Paris with high hopes for yet another podium finish.
  • Chuck Aoki – Wheelchair Rugby: Chuck Aoki is no stranger to the Paralympic stage. The Paris Games will mark his fourth appearance, having represented the U.S. at every Summer Paralympics since the 2012 London Games. Aoki, a dominant force on the USA Wheelchair Rugby team, has already earned two silver medals and a bronze medal at previous Paralympics, but his sights are set on claiming gold in Paris. His leadership was key in helping the U.S. national team secure a gold medal at the 2019 ParaPan Games, and he was honored as a flagbearer for Team USA at the Tokyo 2021 Games. Aoki originally started out in wheelchair basketball, but after being inspired by the documentary “Murderball,” he made the switch to rugby at age 15—a decision that has defined his career.

Each of these athletes is a testament to the power of accessibility and inclusion, not just in sports, but in all aspects of life. They serve as role models for people with disabilities, showing that with the right resources and support, anything is possible.
